December 30, 2006 on 3:42 pm | In Nokia E series Phone Reviews | No CommentsNokia E61 Review - Nokia has responded to the boom of the BlackBerry market in the form of the Nokia E61. This smartphone has a large 2.8 inch, 320 by 240 pixel, 16.7 million color LCD screen. The E61 includes a light sensor that really works and keeps the display
easily readable unlike other phones.
The Qwerty keyboard has small keys but no audio when you press a button. There are shortcuts to functions like the internet, but no dedicated buttons. Learning these shortcuts is highly recommended.
Above the keyboard is a joystick, left and right soft keys, begin and end call buttons, and dedicated keys for email and the programs area.
The E61 excludes an antenna and includes the volume keys, voice recorder key, and loudspeaker on the left side. The bottom holds the infrared port, the power plug and the pop-port while the miniSD card slot is under the battery cover. The top and right sides are empty and the thumb wheel is nonexistent. This Nokia phone has no camera.
The Nokia E61 processor is a 206 MHz Texas Instruments OMAP and has a Symbian 9.1 operating system with Series 60 version 3 User Interface. It includes Quad-band GSM, EDGE, WCDMA, 802.11g, and Bluetooth 1.2. It has good battery life with 4 days of power under moderate use.

Nokia 5300 measures 3.6x1.9x0.08 inches and weighs about 21 g. There is not much to the design of the handset. It is a slider phone, which has a smooth operation. Nokia 5300 is compatible with all GSM frequencies, which makes it possible to travel worldwide with the phone. The address book can store up to 1,000 phone book entries, having provision for entering 5 phone numbers, a PTT, email, web address, a job title and a company name, work and home street addresses, a birth date, a nickname, a formal name, and notes.
Your contacts can be grouped or paired, and you can add a photo Id for each of your contact. As regards to the music part of the phone, the choice is small as far as polyphonic ring tones are concerned, with only 10, 64-chord tones, which may be assigned to your contacts. Nokia 5300 features a vibrator, SMS, MMS, a voice recorder, email, IM, an alarm clock, a calendar, a to-do list, a notepad, a calculator, a countdown timer, and a stopwatch.
Nokia 5300 comes with built-in business features, besides Bluetooth. It supports infrared, PC synchronisation, a mini USB port, and a unit and currency converter. The phone features a superior music player, supporting MP3, AAC, AAC+, and WMA files. The player may be played and stopped from externally situated buttons, while the full menu can be accessed from interior pf the phone. As far as playing list is concerned, Nokia 5300 displays track name, length, and artist, with the album name.
The camcorder in Nokia 5300 shoots 3GPP videos, where you have two options of resolution to chose from, 176x144 and 129x96. You may choose to record with or without the sound on. While the image quality is acceptable for a 1.3 mega-pixel camera, the colours look somewhat faded. The video recordings may be saved or sent off to PCs via the Bluetooth facility, or sent to other phones as a multimedia message. It could also be sent to a PC, via a USB cable, for printing.
