Nokia 6270 Review - The Nokia 6270 is a nice looking slider-style quad band phone. The 6270 is an enhanced Series 40 phone, NOT a Symbian Series 60 phone. It is a little big and the slider takes some getting used to. The display is superb, big and bright. The display shows an "E" when in an EDGE enabled area (otherwise a "G"). SMS implementation allows multiple addresses to be entered into one message. T9 has a "prediction" feature that "suggests" words as you press keys.
The Nokia 6270 includes a 128MB miniSD card that is "hot swappable." Phone "pop port" connects to a USB cable and can be used as a USB Drive allowing direct access to the miniSD card. RF performance is what you would expect from Nokia.
The integrated music player found in the Nokia 6270 is pretty good, unless you are playing a long MP3 file (such as a Podcast). If you have to pause the playing of an MP3 file and switch to another function, the Music Player will not hold the current position of the MP3 file being played. When you go back to the Music Player and the MP3 file, it will be queued at the beginning. Trying to "fast forward" your audio files is also a tad on the slow side.
The Nokia 6270 uses the BL-5C battery, the same as in the 6230, 6600, 6680, 6681, 6682 and several other phones. Using the 6270's features will quickly drain the battery. Just using it as a phone (a few hours a day) will get you through a day or two without a charge.

Speaking of battery charge, Nokia has gone to a "miniature" sized AC Adapter plug for the 6270 phone. Why they did this is a mystery to me. The plug connector seems more fragile and makes your current AC Adapters "not compatible." Nokia includes one (1) adapter for former AC adapters that will bridge this size incompatibility. But if you have several AC adapters (one in the office, one in the car, one in the bedroom, one in your travel bag), purchasing additional adapters will cost you $20 each.
The Nokia 6270 is a great phone overall, but has a couple bugs worth mentioning...
The most annoying problem I've found with the Nokia 6270 is the VM indicator. With Cingular, when a VM is received, the VM indicator is shown. However, when the VM is listened to (deleted), the Cingular system sends a message to the phone to clear the VM flag, however the phone does not recognize this signal. The signal ends up as a "blank" SMS message and the VM flag stays - forever. Nothing you can do to clear it. However, you do get a VM Received indication displayed on the phone screen. If you are using T-Mobile, when a VM is received, the VM flag is never displayed. You will get a voice mail received indication along with a blank SMS. When the VM is cleared you will get another blank SMS.
The 6270 features a "voice command" that takes some time to get used to. A voice tag (speaker independent) is automatically attached to each contact. Accurately speaking the voice tag so that it will be recognized is a bit of a challenge. You have to listen to the tag and mimic the robotic like voice. If you are successful in voice commanding the right contact, it will "speak" the default contact, then the class of number (say, for example, "home") and then dial it. You can only "voice select" one number (the default number) in each contact.
If you do activate the voice command feature, it blocks access to the Music Player and Radio. Trying to select one of these functions give you a "Not Allowed" error message. You have to recycle the power to clear this error.
I've heard that the Firmware Version has been updated and released. Hopefully this will fix some of the glitches in the 6270.
